What You’ll Need
- The printable 3D Turkey template (downloadable as a PDF).
- Scissors (child-safe scissors recommended for younger participants).
- Glue, tape, or double-sided tape.
- Optional: Markers, crayons, or colored pencils if you choose the black-and-white template.
How to Build Your 3D Turkey
Step 1: Cut Out the Pieces
Carefully cut out the three main sections of the turkey:
- The neck and head.
- The feathers (a single fan-shaped piece).
- The body and feet.
Safety Tip: If working with children, ensure they are supervised while using scissors.
Step 2: Familiarize Yourself with the Folding Legend
The template features specific markings to guide your folds:
- Dot Dot Dot: Fold downward. [ •••••••• ]
- Dot-Dash (Alternating): Fold upward. [ •-•-•-•- ]
- Dashed Line Without Dots: Guidelines. Don’t fold. [ ——– ]
Step 3: Assemble the Body and Feet
- Fold the body and feet piece using the folding legend as a guide.
- Locate the Number 1 marker on the body piece. Apply tape or glue here—this section loops back to attach to the unprinted, blank side of the paper (nearest the feet).
- Secure the taped section, forming a rounded structure with the feet at the base.
Step 4: Assemble the Neck and Head
- Fold the neck and head piece as follows:
- The fold closest to the eyes (marked with dot-dash) is an upward fold, raising the beak slightly.
- The middle section of the beak (marked with a single dot) is a downward fold, shaping the beak’s tip.
- The fold where the beak meets the snood (marked with dot-dash) is an upward fold, elevating the snood.
- Apply tape or glue to the Number 2 marker. Curve the neck and head piece into a loop, securing it with the adhesive. This creates the 3D head, with the beak and snood prominently displayed.
- Attach the head to the body by aligning Number 3 on the neck piece with Number 3 on the body piece. Secure with tape or glue.
Step 5: Attach the Feathers
- The feathers come as a single fan-shaped piece, resembling a folding hand fan.
- Locate the Number 4 marker on the feather piece and on the back of the body.
- Apply glue or tape to Number 4 on the feathers and attach it to the corresponding Number 4 on the body.
Display Your Turkey!
Your 3D paper turkey is now ready to shine! Use it as a festive centerpiece, an office decoration, or simply as a fun project to mark the season.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Trojan Storage!
Fun Trivia and Final Touches
Did You Know?

- The Feet: A turkey’s feet are called tarsi, covered in scaly skin and often used to distinguish between males and females.
- The Feathers: The large, fan-shaped feathers at the back of a turkey are known as the tail fan, often displayed during courtship or to intimidate predators.
Thanksgiving Fun Fact
The first Thanksgiving feast in 1621 lasted three days! While turkey is now a staple of the holiday, historians believe the original menu included venison and seafood instead.
